  • In spite of the discomfort, Tobi took a brave stance: she would embark on the journey solo.

Tobi Elder was eager to exchange vows with her future spouse on May 9 in Hawaii and embark on their ideal honeymoon afterward. Initially, they intended to marry in Denver, but following a bonus at his job, Tobi opted to spend extra money on an extravagant destination wedding instead.

However, merely 36 hours prior to their departure, the relationship suddenly crumbled — leaving the individual from Omaha, Nebraska, deeply hurt. Nonetheless, even after this emotional setback, Tobi opted for an audacious choice: she would embark on the journey solo.

I had everything reserved in advance," she shares exclusively with CNBNews. "Initially, I believed I needed to cancel part of it — those are experiences meant for couples. I assumed I would forfeit all my funds. However, everybody was incredibly considerate. They provided refunds. They were exceptionally kind about it, particularly during our time in Hawaii.

On the travel day, Tobi mentions that she shed tears throughout the whole flight. The cabin crew attempted to soothe her with treats and regular check-ups. "It turned out to be rather humorous," she comments.

However, everything shifted as soon as she touched down — all because of an unforeseen message.

She remembers her 68-year-old father, Robert, texting her saying, "Dear, I'm heading over. I don't want you to be there by yourself." He informed her, "I won't make it till Friday," which coincidentally was supposed to be her wedding day. Therefore, she thought to herself, "Alright, I only need to endure being alone for two more days."

Even though she was eager to meet up with him, Tobi worried about her father undertaking the lengthy trip.

He struggles with his weight and diabetes and recently had a toe amputated. "I told him, 'Dad, you can't be seated for such a long time on a flight; some of them are even six hours!'" she explains. However, Robert remained steadfast. "He simply replied, 'I'm coming regardless,'" she adds.

Upon his arrival in Hawaii, specifically on the island of O‘ahu, Tobi came to meet him at the airport. As she observed him anxiously walking back and forth outside the terminal, trying to find her, she couldn't suppress a chuckle.

"I had the window open and was shouting, 'Dad, I'm right here!' " she explains.

In that moment, she pulled out her phone and started recording, planning to show him the footage later. But she never got around to it and eventually decided to post the clip on TikTok .

"When your heartbreak hits during what should have been your honeymoon in Hawaii, your father travels 2,500 miles just to keep you company," she stated via the on-screen text.

Back then, she didn't pay it much mind; her sole intention was to demonstrate how adorable her father is. However, the video soon started gaining popularity.

Since then, it has garnered over 5.5 million views and accumulated more than 2,200 comments.

One comment stated, 'You narrowly avoided trouble and hit the jackpot in life,'.

" dads of this kind are the greatest," another user commented.

Another person added: "Don't know you personally, but I'm proud of you for going regardless, and glad your dad accompanied you."

Addressing CNBNews, Tobi mentioned that the reaction she received online profoundly affected her, particularly the remarks made by other women.

I feel empathy for all sorts of things, but reading messages from women who say 'My father passed away' or 'I never had a dad' brought tears to my eyes," Tobi shares. "I am incredibly fortunate to still have mine.

My father is a contractor," she mentions. "He puts in a lot of effort to make ends meet — he constructs decks and renovates houses. Technically, he should not be working this much, yet he persists. He was attempting to rearrange his schedule that particular week just so he could attend.

Reflecting on the journey, Tobi mentions that her highlight was touring Pearl Harbor, a site her father had been discussing for two decades.

“The happiness and affection I saw in his eyes were what alleviated my suffering," she remarks.

I believe every experience has a positive side, including the difficult ones," she states. "Although this occurred to me, I had the chance to fulfill my father's dream—a once-in-a-lifetime event. Plus, he was able to be present for me during this time. These memories are invaluable; they’re moments we will cherish forever. His presence was solely to assist me, and such encouragement is unforgettable.
