Musk Thanks Trump as His Unique Government Role Winds Down
In a message posted on Wednesday, Elon Musk showed appreciation to President Trump as he announced the conclusion of his special status as a government employee, indicating his reduced engagement with the White House.
On a tweet posted on X, Musk expressed his gratitude to Trump for giving him the chance to head the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This department was dedicated to significantly reducing both the federal budget and staffing levels.
"As my term as a Special Government Employee draws to a close, I want to express my gratitude to President @realDonaldTrump for giving me the chance to cut down on unnecessary expenditures," Musk posted on X, which was previously called Twitter until his acquisition of the platform in 2022.
The @DOGE initiative will grow stronger with time as it integrates into everyday practices across the administration.
As a special government employee, Musk was restricted to serving for up to 130 days under President Trump and often found himself near the president during the early part of the new administration.
“Offboarding will start tonight,” a White House official informed NewsNation on Wednesday evening.
During the beginning of his involvement with Dogecoin, Musk emphasized his intention to remain influential in political spheres once he was no longer engaged in formal governmental roles. However, as both his focus on Dogecoin and their shared objectives took a backseat due to Trump’s tax cuts—which are projected to significantly increase the national deficit—this tech tycoon has shifted his attention more firmly towards rebuilding his corporate kingdom.
Going back to working around the clock and catching sleep in conference, server, or factory rooms, Musk said On Saturday, in reaction to a posting on X concerning the platform's recent service disruptions.
"I need to concentrate intensely on X/xAI and Tesla, particularly with the upcoming Starship launch next week, since we have crucial technologies being deployed," he stated, alluding to an event scheduled by SpaceX, his aerospace manufacturer.
Tesla shares surged on Tuesday as attention turned to the company following the opening of the markets post-Memorial Day. In an later development that same day, Musk voiced his displeasure with a significant legislative proposal from President Trump during a segment set to air fully on CBS over the weekend.
I was really let down to see the huge spending bill, quite honestly, as it boosts the budget deficit… and it hinders the efforts of the DOGE team, Musk said In a sneak peek from an upcoming interview scheduled to be broadcasted this Sunday on "CBS SundayMorning."
When questioned about his remarks on Wednesday, Trump dismissed Musk's criticisms, supporting the policy despite recognizing elements he finds unfavorable yet essential for congressional approval.
We will be discussing that bill, and some parts of it aren’t making me particularly pleased, but there are other elements that excite me," Trump stated. "Such is the nature of these negotiations. The bill is substantial, grandiose even; yet what makes it magnificent are all those components we’ve managed to include.
